About Us

The goals of Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month (CHWM) are to:

  • Increase awareness of a comprehensive approach to workplace health in Canada that involves all three elements of a healthy workplace:
    • Health and Lifestyle Practices
    • Workplace Culture and Supportive Environment
    • Physical Environment and Occupational Health and Safety
  • Through healthyworkplacemonth.ca, generate awareness and availability of healthy workplace tools, resources and Best Practices so that Canadian organizations may build and sustain healthy workplaces where there are mutual benefits for employees and their organizations; and
  • Increase the number of healthy workplaces in Canada.

CHWM was set in motion in 2001 with the introduction of Canada’s Healthy Workplace Week (CHWW). This web-based initiative provided an avenue to help increase awareness of the importance of workplace health for the short- and long-term successes of organizations and for the well being of their employees.

Canada’s Healthy Workplace Week was eventually extended to become Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month (CHWM). The month-long duration provided workplaces with more time to plan, promote, and execute programs and activities to benefit their employees.

In 2011, CHWM encourages Canadian organizations to promote the benefits of workplace health year round. Organizations are invited to participate all year to highlight elements of a healthy workplace. Throughout the year, the CHWM website will serve as the central hub. Organizations can share their success stories and event photos to showcase what they’ve done to create a healthier workplace. Best Practices from across Canada (Eastern Canada, Central Canada, Western Canada, Northern Canada) in all sizes of organizations will continue to be showcased throughout the coming year.
